Congratulations to all the Science Fair participants and those students from 7-2 that are going on to the District Science Fair next week at SMS.
Today was Pink Shirt Day at SMS and students in 7-2 had many discussions and watched some clips on bullying. Students wrote a letter to themselves that they will read next year at this time. Students made personal connections to bullying and wrote about their experiences. Some students even shared personal experiences. It was a very powerful and emotional day. Students watched a clip on YouTube called "For the Birds" and are inferring with the theme of bullying in mind what the birds are actually saying. We will be recording our own versions as soon as Ms. Thorpe figures out the technology needed. In French students finished working on their animals posters. These will be due on Friday. A reminder to bring Gym Strip tomorrow. We began our Anti-Bullying week with video clips and discussions about bullying. Students were asked to think how bullying has affected their lives either as a bully, a person bullied or as a bystander. Students are working on anti-bullying pledges.
Students silent read and were reminded that Term 2 AR cut off is today. Any quizzes taken after today will count towards Term 3 goals. Students worked on Get Set Lesson #14 on Self Esteem which ties into Anti-Bullying week. Students are reminded that Pink Shirt Day is Wednesday and the colour pink is encouraged. Students continued to work on their French animal posters last block. Tomorrow is Science Fair. Students will need to be dressed appropriately and be prepared to sit in the Gym all morning as judges examine the projects. Awesome red and white day at SMS! Thanks 7-2 for all your school spirit!
This morning students had one final block to finish up Science Fair projects then students silent read and worked on their French animal posters. Have a great weekend! A reminder of early dismissal today again. Students are reminded to leave at 2pm if they are walking or getting a ride, but must stay in the gym or multi-purpose area if they are waiting for a bus.
Tomorrow is RED and WHITE day at SMS. Let's show our awesome school spirit 7-2! AR cutoff is Monday. Students needing to reach their AR goal are reminded to read, read, read over the weekend. In Math, students started looking at decmials and how they are related to fractions. Students reviewed place value and turning decimals into fractions. Students went to the computer lab 2nd block to type up their Languages Arts paragraphs as well as their Science Fair presentation notes. Students spent 3rd block presenting to Mr. Broadbent because they missed Science yesterday due to early dismissal. Science Fair is on Tuesday at SMS. Early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at 2pm today.
This morning students worked on their animal French project. Some students were given back their Math re-tests. Students were given a block to work on Science Fair. Presentations for 7-2 will begin tomorrow during 3rd block with Mr. Broadbent and conclude on Friday during Science block. Science Fair is in the gym on Tuesday. This Friday we are having a very special assembly in the afternoon. Students are encouraged to wear Red and White to show school spirit. Students rewrote their Math quiz on Decimals this morning.
Students were given 2 blocks to work on Science Fair this morning. Science Fair presentations are to be ready for Thursday and Friday of this week. Science Fair is next Tuesday in the gym. In French, students decided on a new unit and began a short in class project. Students silent read for 15 minutes today. AR cutoff is on Monday. Tomorrow is an early dismissal day and school will end at 2pm. Busses will run on a normal schedule so students who take a bus will need to wait in the gym until that time. If students walk or get picked up, they can leave at 2pm. Remember gym strip for tomorrow. Students were handed their Math quizzes back today. Students made corrections and some students are rewriting sections of the quiz tomorrow to better their understanding of the concepts.
Students were assigned their 'friend' in AutumnAire today and brainstormed how they met, how they know each other, what type of friends they are etc. Students will need to write 1 - 2 paragraphs for this assignment. Students are reminded that Wednesday and Thursday are early dismissal days and parents are invited to email me to make an appointment to come in and see if you would like. Science Fair projects are due this week as the Science Fair is in one week! Students had a great time at HairSpray and were perfect audience members!
Students need to make sure they complete their Appreciations project for tomorrow in order to hand them out to other students in the class. Tomorrow we are having another extra bonus Science block to work on Science Fair. Make sure you bring all your materials to school tomorrow. Remember your gym strip for tomorrow. Science Fair is in 2 weeks! You should be putting the finishing touches on your project. On sale at lunch tomorrow are Ice Cream Juice floats and cupcakes for Kindness week. The cost is $1 per item. In Math today students wrote a quiz on decimals. Students worked on their Appreciations for each other in Language Arts and in addition decorated a bag with their name on it to put their Appreciations. Please bring your Appreciation sheet tomorrow to work on it during class time. |
